Laura Orem (she/her)

When she is not serving on the board of Wisdom Projects, Laura Orem is the organization's Senior Program Specialist for Research tasked with co-researching and writing the organization's reporting documents and white papers. 


Retired as a longtime Writing Fellow at Goucher College, Laura is an award-winning poet and writer and the author of two groundbreaking, brilliant books of poems on themes of healing, identity, and resilience: 


  • Resurrection Biology (Finishing Line Press, 2017); and 


  • Castrata: a Conversation (Finishing Line Press, 2014).


Laura is a veteran teacher for youth and young adults. 


She was a featured blogger at the Best American Poetry and her work has been published in many venues, including The Writer's Chronicle, DMQ, Zocalo Public Square, Nimrod, and other venues.


Laura is also a visual artist, collagist, and painter, and an adjudicator of emerging artists.


She holds an MFA from Bennington College.
